He will have in no time put into place metrics to ensure the productivity gains are at the rendezvous!!!\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And while analyzing your critical processes, a question may erupt at the top of your mind. Shall I develop a customized mobile application?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The question is quite simple and the answer is as simple, since the \u00ab\u00a0required-to-be- mobilized\u00a0\u00bb function is not available within the mobile applications park, you will most probably be facing one of three situations calling upon a customized mobile application:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The business function to be <em>mobilized<\/em> is in fact part of a custom-made application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Ex: ERP which was custom-made for your enterprise can be mobilized. It will be available to any smartphone compatible with some restriction.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An activity executed on the road can now be automated, thanks to Smartphones capabilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Ex: technicians are now using BlackBerry&rsquo;s instead of paper forms.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New-generation Smartphones increased capabilities let us anticipate some internal business functions to be mobilized.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Ex: An enterprise CRM advanced functionalities such as access to strategic data mobilized.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>The smartphone power helps to get mobilized application<\/h2>\n<p>Let&rsquo;s mention, to make our point, that today&rsquo;s Smartphones technical specs (<strong>BlackBerry Storm, iPhone, Treo Pro)<\/strong> are quite impressive for such little\u00a0devices:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>processors from 400\u00a0to\u00a0600 MHz<\/li>\n<li>screens up to\u00a0480\u00d7360 pixels<\/li>\n<li>memory cards up to\u00a032 Go<\/li>\n<li>3.2 megapixels cameras.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Let&rsquo;s not forget that at the turn of the Millennium, a lot of people were working with desktops just barely faster. Hard disks were not at 1 Go yet and desktop digital cameras were still quite exotic!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>From the moment your business operation specifics require the development of a customized mobile application, you will have but only two choices:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Smartphone embarked application<\/li>\n<li>Web application calling upon your Smartphone Internet capabilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Which is which, how to choose between developing an \u00ab\u00a0embarked\u00a0\u00bb versus a \u00ab\u00a0Web\u00a0\u00bb mobile app?\u00a0 What follows is more of an analysis guide than a comprehensive list of evaluation criteria.<\/p>\n<h2>5 development steps<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>1<sup>st<\/sup> step<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The first point to assess the \u00ab\u00a0<em>criticality<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb level of the application to be mobilized.\u00a0 Must this application run at all time and at all cost, in an uninterrupted fashion in order to ensure the enterprise or the workers productivity? \u00a0If so, then without any doubt you must develop a Web app onto which your Smartphones will hook themselves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>2<sup>nd<\/sup> step<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Secondly, security is a serious matter to take into account.\u00a0 Can you keep embarked data, or transferred data or data captured on the road on the device without any risk for either the enterprise or its clients&rsquo; security?\u00a0 If not, then a Web app is your best solution again.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>3<sup>rd<\/sup> step<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The nature of the application to be mobilized is also not to be neglected.
